Google Wave of Inspiration
4th June 2009
Last week, Google gave a sneak preview of the Google Wave project. The presentation, quite rightly, received a standing ovation. There has since been a lot of commentary about the technology, about it’s use of HTML5, about the merging of email, chat, and forums into a single communication medium, and the enhancements that ensue.
But what strikes me about the presentation is how inspiring it is. A small team of people sat down and thought “What would we create if we were inventing email today?”. Then they created it. The simplicity and ambition of this premise is what’s so inspiring. And it can be applied to many other areas…
- What would you create if you were inventing image editing tools today?
- What would you create if you were inventing television today?
- What would you create if you were inventing advertising today?
Pick a subject you know something about, then ask yourself what you’d create if you were inventing it anew.
